Muted Summer Sandstone Editorial Shoot

This styled shoot at the Colorado Paint Mines is earthy elegance and then some.I had always wanted to do a shoot in this very spot. I love the beauty in the natural formations and the aesthetic that the sand formations provide. With an AMAZING team of vendors, we were able to pull this shoot together before I moved from Colorado.

Two key elements inspired this shoot; The first being a soft yet bright summer color palette with cerulean blue accents. The second form of inspiration being the lovely natural sand formations which creates a unique mix of tonal, floral, and textural elements. The location provides the perfect setting to inspire brides wanting a sophisticated color palette featuring bright muted tones.

The white sand formations create a backdrop plain enough to feature the romantic tablescape which is set off by ivory linens accented with cerulean blue. Gold tableware and crystal add just a hint of sparkle to the otherwise organic design. White plates maintain a classic touch, while scrawling script on place cards lends itself to elegance. Blue taper candles accent the cerulean napkins. A gorgeous floral centerpiece spanning the length of the table ties the entire look together.

Floral designs featuring roses and peonies in different shades of ivory and soft, light pinks combine with an array of foliage. Textural elements of branches, smooth succulent leaves, and plump buds spill romance onto the table. Greens, browns, pinks, and hints of orange help to contrast against the blue table accents.

The bride’s bouquet, bold and large scale, mimics the same feel as the substantial centerpiece. Romance, whimsy, and earth tones help to highlight a flowing, white tulle skirt. The dress includes a lace bodice with slightly cropped sleeves, off the shoulder fit, and sweetheart neckline. Pointed toe blue shoes in the perfect hue of suede carry the whimsy throughout the bride’s look. The bouquet’s wide, plump shape creates an image of bounty and earthly charm.

The groom’s boutonniere is the perfect punctuation to a lavish bouquet with a touch of orange and a few smooth leaves. The piece contrasts beautifully against a dark charcoal suit, crisp white shirt, and black bow tie. Together, the bride and groom are a perfect combination of dark and light, mimicking the scenery seamlessly.

A classic yet balanced look brings the celebration’s theme through to the very last detail. Set against lush fabrics of grey and ivory, glitz balances elegance. A bit of sparkle sets off the earthy flavor of the shoot with a little panache. Airy, white rock cliffs, whimsical floral designs inspired by earth tones, classic place settings, and a perfectly defined ring balance the entire concept. Bride and groom come together through tones of light and dark to enjoy each other in a place of natural wonder.
